Lands Ministry Publishes List of 907 Small-Scale Mining Licenses Facing Revocation

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has released a list of 907 small-scale mining licenses that are under threat of revocation as part of a broader effort to clean up Ghana’s mining sector.

The move follows a comprehensive review of 1,278 small-scale mining licenses, with findings submitted to Sector Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP) on Monday, July 21, 2025. Of the total reviewed, 316 licenses were cleared of any issues, while 962 licenses were flagged for various irregularities—55 of which have already been revoked.

The irregularities identified include:

  • Missing or incomplete documentation
  • Procedural violations
  • Inaccurate or poor-quality data submissions

The remaining 907 licenses are now facing possible cancellation after the expiration of the deadline set by the Minister.

To address concerns and allow for fair correction of errors, the Ministry has formed a three-member committee to receive and evaluate correspondence, petitions, and evidence related to the flagged licenses. Where justified, the committee may recommend corrections or amendments.

In a related development, the Ministry has also announced plans to begin a similar review of large-scale mining licenses, signaling a wider regulatory effort to address malpractice across the entire mining sector.

Access the full list of the 907 licenses at risk of revocation on the Ministry’s official website or notice board.
