More than 2,870 qualified applicants who were part of the 2021 Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise have submitted a formal petition to the President of the Republic of Ghana, calling for the reinstatement of their recruitment process, which was abruptly cancelled. The petition, also addressed to the Minister for Defense, Dr. Omane Boamah, and other key government officials, highlights the emotional, financial, and professional toll the unexpected cancellation has had on the affected individuals.
According to the petitioners, they had successfully passed through all the necessary stages of recruitment — including screening, documentation, medicals, and vetting — and were awaiting official appointment letters. Many of them have professional qualifications and expertise in various fields such as Computer Science, Engineering, Midwifery, Construction, Music, and more, all of which they believe are essential to national development and could significantly benefit the Armed Forces.
However, despite completing these rigorous processes, the group states that there has been no official communication or update for over a year, resulting in widespread frustration, financial loss, and uncertainty about their future.
The petitioners are urging the government to:
They express hope that their voices will be heard and that justice will prevail in a country they are eager to serve.
This petition underscores a growing sense of frustration among Ghanaian youth seeking opportunities to contribute meaningfully to national security and development. The government’s response in the coming days will be closely watched.
