President John Dramani Mahama has submitted a detailed report on electoral violence from the 2020 and 2024 general elections to Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine for legal assessment and guidance.
The report, prepared by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, outlines violent incidents that marred both elections, including clashes involving political party supporters and security personnel, as well as fatal shootings.
According to the findings, eight people died during the 2020 elections, while three fatalities were recorded in 2024, with several others sustaining injuries across affected constituencies.
This move by the IGP came after a directive from President Mahama, who acted in response to mounting pressure from civil society groups demanding accountability for politically driven violence.
The President’s referral of the report to the Attorney General aims to initiate legal proceedings where necessary and to help design policies that will curb such violence in future elections.
The Presidency emphasized its dedication to reinforcing the rule of law and rebuilding public confidence in Ghana’s democratic processes.
