President John Dramani Mahama has nominated 21 High Court judges, including the revered Paramount Chief of Dormaa, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, for appointment to the Court of Appeal, according to a report by thelawplatform.online.
The nomination, in accordance with Article 144(3) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, will be submitted to the Judicial Council for advice and onward approval. The article empowers the President to appoint Justices of the Court of Appeal and the High Court, acting on the advice of the Judicial Council.
Among the prominent nominees is Justice Daniel Mensah, known traditionally as Dormaahene. He is widely respected for balancing his dual roles as a traditional ruler and a High Court judge. His consistent advocacy on national development and judicial independence has won him admiration across political divides.
If approved, the nominees will significantly boost the strength and capacity of the Court of Appeal, Ghana’s second-highest court, enhancing access to timely and quality justice.
