Tensions have erupted within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) just days before its highly anticipated National Delegates Conference, following the emergence of a court suit purportedly filed against the party by two of its members—one of whom has swiftly disowned the legal action.
The High Court writ, dated July 17, 2025, names Shamsudeen Iddrisu of Walewale and Boateng Kwadwo of Bantama as plaintiffs in a suit filed against the NPP’s National Headquarters. The document directs the party to respond within eight days, just as it prepares for its national conference at the University of Ghana this weekend.
But in a swift rebuttal on Thursday evening, Shamsudeen Iddrisu issued a public statement distancing himself from the suit, claiming he had no prior knowledge of the action and had not instructed any lawyer to act on his behalf.
“I entreat the public to disregard the writ as I have not instructed any lawyer to do this on my behalf,” he stated.
Mr. Iddrisu further reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the party and its leadership:
“As a committed member of the NPP, I have absolute respect for the decisions of the National Council and would not use the courts to undermine such decisions.”
He expressed confidence in the upcoming conference and encouraged unity among party members.
Details of the legal challenge remain unclear, as the writ only partially reveals the nature of the plaintiffs’ claims, which appear to question recent decisions taken by the National Council.
The second individual listed in the suit, Boateng Kwadwo, is yet to make any public comment.
This development has stirred concern within party ranks, raising questions about internal cohesion and possible manipulation as the party heads into a crucial phase of its election-year preparations.
As of now, the NPP’s leadership has not issued an official response to the lawsuit or the internal dispute.
