The Accra Regional Police Command has issued an update on the violent incidents and assaults that occurred during the Ablekuma North Parliamentary re-run election held on Friday, July 11, 2025.
In a press release dated 17th July 2025, signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, the Police confirmed the following:
- Multiple videos capturing violent incidents at polling stations are currently being reviewed to identify those involved.
- Statements have been obtained from both complainants and witnesses as part of the ongoing investigations.
- Vital leads have been gathered, and arrests are expected to be effected soon. Victims have already been issued Police Medical Report Forms.
- A Police Officer captured on video assaulting a journalist has been interdicted and is being held for criminal charges of assault.

The Police emphasized their commitment to due process and assured the public that any person found culpable of violence, intimidation, or misconduct during the elections will face the full rigors of the law.
The public has been urged to cooperate with the Police by reporting credible information through the emergency numbers 18555 or 191.
This swift action by the Ghana Police Service signals a firm stance against election-related violence and an ongoing effort to restore public confidence in the country’s democratic process.
