In a significant development marking the end of the nationwide District Chief Executive (DCE) appointment process, President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Ibrahim Issahaq and Yakubu Issifu as DCEs for the Atwima Mponua District Assembly and the Asante Mampong Municipal Assembly, respectively.
The announcement was made official in a press release issued on 17th July 2025 by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. According to the statement, the nominations were made in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).
The two nominees are expected to assume office upon approval by their respective Assemblies. Their appointments bring the DCE nomination process to a close, signaling the President’s commitment to ensuring effective decentralization and local governance across the country.
The Minister for Local Government, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim (MP), signed the release, reaffirming the government’s support for the newly nominated officials and urging stakeholders to collaborate in promoting development at the district level.
This milestone completes the appointment of DCEs across all 16 regions of Ghana, setting the stage for enhanced governance and service delivery at the local level.
