The Sunyani Municipal Assembly has commenced renovation works on the official residence of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), citing its uninhabitable condition.
During an inspection with masemtvgh.com, Nana Yaw Nketiah, the Assembly’s Head of Budget, stated that the bungalow has significantly deteriorated and is currently unsuitable for occupancy.
“The MCE needs accommodation, but the building, in its current state, cannot be used. It has serious structural issues,” Nketiah noted.
He highlighted that the roof leaks, damaging the ceiling, while dampness is affecting the walls. The building also suffers from faulty plumbing and electrical systems.
“We’re planning a full renovation—replacing the roof, ceiling, tiles, plumbing, and rewiring the entire structure to make it livable again,” he said.
Estate Engineer Effah Kwasi Peter confirmed that the bungalow, which is over 70 years old, has surpassed the stage of routine maintenance and now requires a full overhaul.
“Our engineering assessment recommends a complete reroofing and refurbishment. If funding is secured, the work could be completed within three months,” he stated.
Mr. Effah added that the renovation contract will be awarded through national competitive tendering, in line with procurement laws, due to the project’s cost and scale.
He further explained that the Assembly routinely evaluates the MCE’s residence every four years for necessary repairs before a new official assumes office. However, the current condition demands extensive work.
While the estimated cost was not disclosed, officials emphasized that the aim is to provide a safe, modern, and comfortable residence that meets current standards.
