President John Dramani Mahama has assured traders and residents of Kumasi that the long-abandoned Krofrom Market will be completed and operational by the end of 2026.
The market, which was started in 2007, has been left incomplete for over a decade, becoming a refuge for criminals and wild animals, much to the frustration of the local community.
As part of his Thank-You Tour of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, July 16, President Mahama visited the site and pledged that his government would take all necessary steps to complete the project.
He emphasized the NDC government’s commitment to improving market infrastructure nationwide, highlighting the Market Enhancement Programme outlined in the party’s manifesto. According to the President, this programme targets the restructuring of 18 markets across the country.
“I’ve asked the Mayor to write to the Vice President and include Krofrom in the programme, so the project can finally be completed to benefit traders. I am confident that by the end of 2026, Krofrom Market will be fully completed,” President Mahama said.
The Market Queen, Adwenehemaa Nana Sakina, expressed gratitude to the President, describing him as the only leader with the will and capacity to complete abandoned market projects and improve the lives of traders. She also pledged the full support of market women for the NDC.
