Mahama’s Silence on Ablekuma North Violence Deeply Concerning – Miracles Aboagye

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed strong concern over President John Dramani Mahama’s continued silence following violent incidents during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun on July 11, 2025.

Appearing on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, July 16, Aboagye condemned the violence and said it must be rejected by all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation.

“It’s been six days, and President Mahama hasn’t said a word about the violence — not even a social media post. That’s deeply troubling,” he said.

The chaos at the St. Peter’s polling centre reportedly involved attacks on journalists, politicians, and civilians — including a woman — during the voting process. Former Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson was also assaulted in the incident.

Aboagye said such silence from a national leader undermines public trust and appears dismissive of the suffering of victims.

“Even just a tweet would show leadership. Remaining silent sends the wrong message,” he added. “I urge President Mahama to speak. It’s not too late, but it will be a stain on his conscience if he remains quiet.”

The Accra Regional Police Command, in a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, has assured the public that investigations are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
