Fuel prices have gone up at several pumps across Ghana starting today, July 16, 2025, with some oil marketing companies adjusting their prices upward.
GOIL, one of the key market players, is now selling petrol at GH₵12.88 per litre, up from GH₵12.07. Diesel has also jumped from GH₵13.20 to GH₵14.38 per litre.
Star Oil has similarly adjusted its prices. Petrol is now going for GH₵12.59 per litre at most of its stations, though some outlets are offering it at GH₵11.99. Diesel is selling at GH₵13.99, with select stations pricing it at GH₵13.79.
Several other oil marketing firms have indicated to JOYBUSINESS that they too will revise their prices before the end of the day.
Why the Price Hike?
The increase is largely attributed to the implementation of the new GH₵1 fuel levy, which took effect today under the amended Energy Sector Levy Act (Act 1141).
According to Dr. Riverson Oppong, CEO of the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies, prices might have actually dropped by about 2% if the new levy hadn’t been introduced.
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers is urging the government to reconsider the tax structure used in determining fuel prices. Executive Secretary Duncan Amoah says reducing some of the taxes could help cushion consumers even as the government rolls out the new levy.
