Prez Mahama Cancels Fuel Allowances for Government Appointees

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate cancellation of fuel allowances and fuel allocations for all political appointees, as part of measures to cut down on government spending and reinforce fiscal discipline.

This decision was communicated through a statement released on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

The statement explained that the directive is a key component of the Mahama administration’s broader cost-saving initiative under the Reset Agenda, which aims to redirect public resources toward critical sectors and national development priorities.

“The President is of the view that those in leadership should share in the sacrifices being asked of citizens,” the statement noted.

This latest move follows a series of austerity actions introduced by the government, including downsizing the number of ministers, reducing the overall size of government, and cutting off satellite television subscriptions at the Presidency and other state institutions.
