NPP to Hold National Delegates Conference as Scheduled – Joseph Osei-Owusu

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed that its National Delegates Conference will go ahead as planned on Saturday, July 19, 2025, despite internal appeals for a postponement.

Calls from within the party had urged leadership to delay the event to allow more time to resolve internal concerns. However, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council have rejected the request, citing the significant preparations and commitments already in place.

Speaking at a press briefing following the Council’s meeting, Conference Planning Committee Chairman, Joseph Osei-Owusu, reaffirmed the decision.

“There was a petition requesting a date change for the conference. After careful consideration, the NEC decided the event should proceed. Given the level of preparation and obligations made, we will hold the conference as originally scheduled,” he stated.

The upcoming conference is expected to play a critical role in shaping the party’s future, with key constitutional amendments on the table. Delegates will review reform proposals stemming from the Prof. Mike Oquaye Committee’s work and unresolved matters from the party’s 2019 Delegates Conference in Kumasi.

Though reforms from 2019 received preliminary approval, they have yet to be fully ratified. Party leaders view this conference as the appropriate moment to complete that process.

In a separate briefing, NPP Director of Communications Richard Ahiagbah highlighted that the proposed changes aim to strengthen the party’s internal governance and prepare it for electoral success in the 2028 general elections.

“These reforms include proposals from the Mike Oquaye Committee and various inputs from party members. They are part of what delegates will evaluate at this conference,” Ahiagbah noted.

This year’s event is themed “Rebuilding Together With Our Values”—a reflection of the party’s commitment to unity, renewal, and long-term strategy.
