Gov’t Orders All Mining Machinery to Be Registered by August 1 or Face Seizure

In a decisive move to sanitize Ghana’s mining sector, the Government has announced that all machinery used in mining activities must be registered with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) by August 1, 2025.

This directive, announced on July 15, 2025, forms part of broader efforts to regulate the mining industry and curb illegal operations. According to the statement issued by Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, any mining equipment that remains unregistered after the deadline will be confiscated by the State.

Starting August 2, 2025, the Ghana Police Service and DVLA will begin full-scale enforcement of the directive, targeting all unregistered equipment in use across the country’s mining zones.

“The general public, especially those engaged in mining, are strongly advised to comply with this directive without fail,” the statement read.

The move is aimed at promoting transparency, enhancing monitoring of mining operations, and reducing the environmental and security risks associated with unregulated mining machinery.

The Ministry of the Interior reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring internal security, environmental protection, and the rule of law, emphasizing that the directive is a critical step in restoring order in the mining sector.
