Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has revealed that security agencies intercepted 1,192 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of cannabis, and 17.9 kilograms of gold bars at various entry and exit points across Ghana during June 2025.
The seizures were carried out by the Narcotics Control Commission at four key locations: Tema Port, Kotoka International Airport, the Paga Border, and Oyarifa.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Monday, July 14, the Minister explained that the busts form part of the government’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and the illegal export of resources.
While specific details about arrests or current investigations were not disclosed, Muntaka said efforts are underway to enhance border security to deter future smuggling attempts.
“The Narcotics Control Commission has intensified operations to disrupt drug trafficking networks and protect public health,” he stated. “As of June 2025, significant quantities of cocaine, cannabis, and gold have been seized at strategic national entry points.”
He also noted that the Commission has scaled up enforcement in targeted communities, conducting seven drug swoops in areas including Akosombo, Takoradi, and Madina to curb street-level drug distribution.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity to safeguard both national security and public health.
