Miracles Aboagye Urges NPP to Form ‘Self-Protection Committee’ Amid Election Violence

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to establish a “self-protection committee” in response to recent violence that erupted during the Ablekuma North constituency rerun.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, July 12, Mr. Aboagye voiced serious concerns over the lack of immediate response from the presidency following the incidents, which occurred more than 24 hours earlier.

“After witnessing the violence firsthand in Ablekuma, and hearing comments from public officials like Sam George, who suggest this is just the beginning, I believe the NPP has no other option,” he stated.

He noted that while the party already has legal, electoral, and communications committees, it is crucial that they also set up a body specifically focused on safeguarding their members. “The party must act quickly to form a self-protection committee,” he emphasized.

His call comes as tensions rise over politically driven violence during the rerun, held across 19 polling stations. The election was disrupted by attacks, with media observers raising alarms about increasing threats to press freedom and democratic processes.

Mr. Aboagye also criticized the continued silence from the presidency, saying, “We still haven’t heard from the president—not even a single tweet.”
