Former Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament and former Minister for Fisheries, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has released a public disclaimer following a violent incident at the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, during which she was physically assaulted and her mobile phone was seized.
In a statement shared across her verified social media platforms on Friday, July 11, Madam Koomson confirmed that she was attacked by individuals described as “NDC machomen” while peacefully observing the electoral process.
“During this unfortunate incident, my personal mobile phone was forcibly taken,” the statement reads.
She warned that any calls, messages, social media posts, or broadcasts originating from her number from the time of the incident onwards should be treated as unauthorized and not from her.
“I kindly urge everyone to disregard any such communication until I regain full control of my digital platforms,” she added.
The disclaimer comes in the wake of widespread chaos and violence reported at several polling stations during the rerun, including Odorkor Methodist 1 and St. Peter’s, where numerous political figures, journalists, and party agents were assaulted.
The Electoral Commission (EC) is conducting the rerun across 19 polling stations to conclude the unresolved parliamentary race in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
Security has since been tightened, and the Ministry of the Interior has vowed to treat all infractions during the elections as criminal offenses.
