The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has denied claims circulating in the media suggesting that Ghana will face a nationwide blackout on Sunday, July 13, 2025, labeling the reports as misleading and inaccurate.
Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor had earlier indicated that there may be brief power disruptions due to a scheduled maintenance operation by ENI aimed at boosting gas production. However, some reports misinterpreted this as an announcement of a nationwide outage.
Addressing the issue on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Wednesday, July 9, Richmond Rockson, the Ministry’s Spokesperson and Head of Communication, clarified that while localized power interruptions are possible, the public should not expect a full-scale blackout or a return to the persistent outages known as “dumsor.”
“I’ve seen some media outlets wrongly report that there will be a nationwide blackout. That is completely untrue and not what the Minister said,” Rockson emphasized.
He reiterated that the Ministry is taking proactive steps to minimize the impact of ENI’s scheduled maintenance and ensure continued power stability across the country.
