Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, has announced she will take part in the upcoming rerun of 19 polling stations on Friday, July 11, 2025—despite her party’s official stance to boycott the process.
Her declaration comes just a day before the scheduled vote. In a final campaign message, the former Member of Parliament explained that her participation is driven by a determination to uphold what she believes was a rightful win in the 2024 parliamentary election.
Confident of a favorable outcome, she said she is relying on divine support to secure victory.
“I urge all constituents to turn out in large numbers and vote for me so that God’s glory may be revealed. I trust in God, and I believe He will not fail me. I won the previous election by a margin of 440 votes, and I am confident that truth will prevail,” she stated.
The Electoral Commission called for a rerun in 19 polling stations within the constituency due to disruptions that halted the collation of results during the December 2024 general elections.
While the NPP has dismissed the rerun as unlawful and a violation of a pending court case—refusing to take part—the Accra High Court on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, threw out the party’s injunction application. The party has not yet reversed its decision to stay away from the rerun.
