All GoldBod Taskforce Officers to Wear Body Cameras on Duty – Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has declared that all operatives of the newly formed GoldBod Taskforce will be required to wear body cameras during every operation as part of strict oversight measures to ensure transparency and accountability in the fight against illegal gold smuggling.

Speaking at the taskforce’s official inauguration on Tuesday, July 8, at the National Security Secretariat in Accra, the president emphasized that the use of body-worn cameras is a critical step toward rooting out corruption in Ghana’s mining sector.

“Every member of the task force will operate under strict oversight. All officers will wear body cameras during all operations,” Mahama stated.

The GoldBod Taskforce, composed of personnel from National Security, the military, and other key security institutions, has undergone extensive training and vetting. According to President Mahama, all members have completed polygraph tests, received detailed orientation on the Minerals and Mining Act (Act 1040), and participated in team-building and anti-corruption programs.

“The inauguration of the GoldBod Taskforce signals our readiness to act decisively,” he said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to combating illegal gold trading and protecting Ghana’s mineral resources.

To reinforce discipline and proper conduct, President Mahama also announced that no field operation will be permitted without an official written warrant from the task force’s Chief Executive Officer. Furthermore, all vehicles assigned to the unit will be equipped with GPS tracking for real-time monitoring.

In addition to these internal controls, the president unveiled a public whistleblower incentive. “If you blow the whistle and gold or its monetary value is recovered, you will receive 10% of the proceeds,” he revealed, encouraging Ghanaians to support the national effort against gold smuggling.

The formation of the GoldBod Taskforce and the accompanying accountability measures mark a significant move in Ghana’s fight to sanitize its mining sector and enhance trust in state anti-corruption initiatives.
