The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has officially inaugurated a new Board of Directors for the Bui Power Authority (BPA), with a strong call for reform, improved governance, and a renewed push toward sustainable energy development.
Speaking at the ceremony in Accra, Hon. Jinapor outlined the urgent need for structural improvements within the Authority, particularly in areas related to energy procurement and strategic planning. He noted that a preliminary review of BPA operations revealed concerning gaps in pricing and long-term vision.

“Upon assumption of office, we reviewed the current state of the company and found significant challenges, particularly with pricing structures and its strategic focus,” the Minister said. “The Authority has signed several solar contracts, but we now need to pivot toward battery-backed solar solutions. Major reforms will be announced soon to enhance the efficiency of energy contracts and eliminate waste.”

The Minister further stressed the importance of financial discipline and policy enforcement, adding that the government remains committed to making Ghana a leader in clean, affordable energy.
In his acceptance speech, newly appointed Board Chairman, Ambassador Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, expressed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for the trust placed in the new board. He pledged that the BPA would align itself with Ghana’s net-zero commitments while delivering on performance and accountability.

“We are aware of the challenges ahead – growing energy demand, climate obligations, and the need for decisive leadership. This board is ready to steer the Authority with sound governance and unwavering commitment to Ghana’s green transition,” Ambassador Marfo assured.
The newly sworn-in Board Members are:
- Amb. Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo (Chairman)
- Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam (Acting CEO)
- Edna Agyepong, Ph.D
- Fuseina Sulemana
- Ing. Yao Gomado (MP)
