The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared its intention to seek a court injunction against the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to conduct a partial rerun of parliamentary elections in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
This comes after the EC announced a rerun in 19 polling stations, citing concerns over the credibility of the December 7, 2024, election results in those areas.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on July 3, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong argued that the Commission lacks the legal authority to order a rerun in just selected polling stations and stated that the party would be taking legal action.
“The NDC is well aware that they lost the election. As the NPP, we are fully committed to defending the democratic will of the people of Ablekuma North, as clearly expressed in the December 7 polls. That is why we have instructed our legal team to challenge this arbitrary and unjustified directive from the EC in court,” he said.
He further described the EC’s decision as “whimsical and capricious,” vowing that the party would do everything necessary to ensure the original results are upheld.
