The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of former GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited Managing Director, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, following the issuance of an arrest warrant.
His arrest on Sunday, June 29, was officially announced during a press briefing by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor.
DCOP Donkor stated that the arrest followed a formal complaint filed by GIHOC Distilleries, alleging that Jumah had unlawfully taken company vehicles. The police operation resulted in the recovery of three vehicles reportedly stolen from the state-owned distillery.
“Indeed, media reports about Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah’s arrest are accurate. The police acted on a petition from GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited concerning missing company vehicles allegedly taken by Mr. Jumah,” she confirmed.
“He is currently in custody at the CID headquarters assisting with investigations. As of this afternoon, three of the vehicles in question have been recovered. The investigation is ongoing, and we will proceed accordingly,” she added.
This incident comes amid rising public demand for transparency and accountability in the management of state-owned enterprises.
