Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Boahen, has firmly asserted that Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s removal is a done deal, regardless of her continued legal resistance.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, Boahen insisted that no amount of court petitions can stop the impeachment process initiated against her. “It’s like a fowl with its neck already slashed—it’s only a matter of time,” he quipped, criticizing her refusal to resign despite mounting pressure.
His comments follow the Chief Justice’s suspension on April 22, 2025, by President Mahama, after a prima facie case was established in consultation with the Council of State. A five-member committee, led by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, is currently probing multiple allegations of misconduct under Article 146(6) of the Constitution.
Though Justice Torkornoo has launched multiple legal bids—including a fresh judicial review at the High Court—Boahen says her fate is sealed. He accused her of clinging to office not for principle but for perks: “Instead of thinking about Ghana, she’s focused on her benefits.”
Despite setbacks, the Chief Justice insists the process against her is flawed and opaque, and continues to resist calls to step aside. But according to Boahen, her exit is no longer a question of if—but when.
