NPP Refers Abronye DC to Disciplinary Committee Over Breach of Party Guidelines

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, to the party’s Disciplinary Committee for making what it termed “unguarded public comments” and for defying directives from the National Council.

This action, announced in a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, follows a meeting of the party’s National Steering Committee.

Though the specific nature of Abronye’s actions was not detailed, the party confirmed that his behavior violated internal rules intended to preserve unity ahead of the upcoming presidential primaries.

“In accordance with the NPP constitution, the Bono Regional Chairman has been referred to the Disciplinary Committee for flouting National Council directives and making inappropriate public remarks,” the statement said.

The referral comes as the NPP intensifies efforts to prevent internal divisions before its flagbearer election, scheduled for January 31, 2026.

To further promote discipline, the party has ordered an immediate stop to all unauthorised meetings and caucuses involving current or former party executives and presidential hopefuls.

The statement also reminded members of their duty to uphold party unity and to respect and publicly support party decisions.

Additionally, the NPP has summoned all presidential aspirants to a joint meeting with the National Steering Committee and the National Council of Elders on July 3, 2025. This meeting will focus on key issues and is expected to lay the groundwork for a fair and peaceful internal contest.

Expected attendees include former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and former Essikado-Ketan MP Joe Ghartey.

The party’s latest actions reflect its determination to maintain internal order and cohesion ahead of the crucial 2026 presidential primary and the 2028 general elections.
