The Lawra Municipality in the Upper West Region is in mourning following the death of its newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Adam Muazu.
Family members confirmed to *MyJoyOnline* that Alhaji Muazu died in Accra after battling a lingering illness. He had been sworn into office in April 2025.
Relatives disclosed that he had been dealing with health issues even before assuming his role and had received treatment at various medical facilities across the country.
His death is a devastating blow to the Lawra community, which is already grappling with the recent tragedy involving the drowning of seven students from Lawra SHS in the Dikpe River, a tributary of the Black Volta.
Alhaji Muazu’s final official duty as MCE was during a visit by the Upper West Regional Security Council to express condolences to the affected school and families.
Before his appointment, he was the first Propaganda Secretary (now known as Communications Officer) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lawra Constituency and successfully coordinated two parliamentary campaigns for the current MP, Bede A. Ziedeng.
Professionally, Alhaji Muazu was both an educator and an entrepreneur. He founded Superteck Digital Studios, a multimedia company.
He completed his secondary education in 1994 as part of the final group under Ghana’s old educational system at Wa Secondary School.
Alhaji Muazu, aged 53, is survived by three wives and seven children.
His body will be transported to Lawra through Wa today, Tuesday, June 24, and will be laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
