Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, has officially declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer slot for the 2028 general elections.
He made the announcement during a meeting with the leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, where he requested their support and spiritual guidance ahead of the internal party contest.
Speaking to the media after the meeting on Tuesday, June 24, Dr. Acheampong revealed that his decision was informed by the findings of an exploratory team that spent a month engaging with party delegates across the country. The team, he said, observed a strong appetite for new leadership—qualities he believes he possesses.
“A decision has been made—I will contest when nominations open. But as someone nurtured by the church, I felt it would be improper if the Moderator heard of this on the radio,” he explained.
He emphasized that informing the church’s General Council and Moderator was a matter of tradition and respect, adding, “Above all, I came to seek God’s blessings.”
