Striking Jurors Mull Petition to Attorney General Over Unpaid Allowances

Jurors serving at the Accra High Court are weighing the option of petitioning the Attorney General’s Office over the government’s prolonged delay in paying their allowances, which has fueled a nearly month-long strike.

The jurors, who say they have not been paid for the past eight months, lament the lack of official communication from the Judicial Service regarding the status of their payments.

In an interview, spokesperson for the group, Joshua Alorgbey, revealed that while they are still awaiting a response, they may be compelled to formally take the matter to the Attorney General.

“We have still not heard from the Judicial Service. We’re waiting to see if they’ll respond, but we’re also considering going to the Attorney General. He might already be aware of the issue, but we want to approach his office and possibly take further action,” he explained.

Alorgbey noted that no final decision has been made, as the jurors continue to hope for a timely resolution, but added that patience is running out.
