OSP Should Embrace Constructive Criticism – NDC’s Wonder Madilo

Wonder Madilo, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to respond to public criticism with greater tolerance and maturity. He cautioned that ongoing public disputes among top government officials could weaken citizens’ confidence in state institutions.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, June 23, Madilo urged Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng to remain open to scrutiny given the high-stakes nature of his anti-corruption role.

“Kissi Agyebeng should be more receptive to criticisms. Yes, he’s doing well with the investigations, but he must also learn to either take criticism in stride or simply let it pass,” Madilo stated.

He described the OSP’s strong rebuttal to recent comments by Professor Ransford Gyampo as unnecessary, pointing out that the Special Prosecutor has weathered far more intense public criticism in the past.

“He’s faced harsher criticism before, so I don’t understand why this particular incident escalated. Others have held press conferences and written publicly against him, including Ken Ofori-Atta’s own family. Why is this different?” he asked.

Madilo warned that such public clashes risk tarnishing the image of government and providing political adversaries with ammunition.

“I hope cooler heads will prevail. Someone in authority needs to intervene so sanity can be restored. It’s dangerous for government officials to be seen fighting in public—it only benefits the opposition,” he added.

His remarks come amid an escalating public exchange between the OSP and Prof. Gyampo, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority. The OSP had issued a statement on Sunday, June 22, 2025, in response to Prof. Gyampo’s June 21 interview on TV3, where he questioned the motives behind the OSP’s probe into former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

In its statement, the OSP dismissed Gyampo’s remarks as baseless and harmful to the credibility of the country’s anti-corruption efforts. It also disclosed that Prof. Gyampo had contacted the office during a legal search operation at Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), which was conducted with National Security support.
