OSP Cautions Prof. Gyampo Against Undermining Anti-Corruption Efforts with Baseless Remarks

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a sharp response to comments made by Professor Ransford Gyampo, Acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, regarding its ongoing probe into former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta.

In a public statement released on Sunday, June 22, 2025, the OSP dismissed Prof. Gyampo’s insinuation that the investigation is rooted in personal bias, describing the claim as “unfounded” and detrimental to the country’s anti-corruption agenda.

“The OSP emphasizes that its inquiry into the former Finance Minister stems from credible allegations of corruption and abuse of office for personal gain, particularly linked to the awarding of a multi-year contract to Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML),” the statement clarified.

Prof. Gyampo, during an appearance on TV3 on June 21, expressed hope that the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, was acting out of patriotic duty rather than personal motives. “I hope the OSP is acting patriotically, not out of vendetta,” he said, warning that anything less could damage the office’s credibility.

In response, the OSP not only denied any form of bias but also revealed that Prof. Gyampo had reached out to the office during a lawful search of SML’s premises, which was carried out with the support of National Security.

“The CEO in question called and sent messages to the OSP regarding SML while the search was actively underway,” the office noted.

The OSP concluded by encouraging open dialogue but warned public figures against interfering—whether through actions or public statements—in its investigations.

“It urges public officials to avoid meddling in active probes, as baseless commentary can seriously hinder the fight against corruption,” the statement cautioned.
