Arthur Kennedy Urges NPP Executives to Seek Fresh Mandate Ahead of 2028 Elections

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, has called on the party’s current national executives to seek a renewed mandate before the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Saturday, June 21, 2025, Dr. Kennedy clarified that his appeal is not a condemnation of the executives’ performance, but rather a democratic move to reconnect party leadership with its grassroots base.

“Our executives need to seek a fresh mandate,” he said. “This isn’t about wrongdoing — it’s about allowing the base to affirm or reconsider who leads them.”

He emphasized that a renewed internal election would give party members the opportunity to retain or replace individuals based on their contributions and performance.

“When they go back to the grassroots, people may say Executive A is doing well and should continue, but Executive B should step aside for new energy,” he explained.

Dr. Kennedy also cited political analyst Musa Dankwa’s recent exit polls, which show widespread voter dissatisfaction with the NPP’s performance in the last election — a campaign that yielded one of the party’s weakest mandates in recent history.

“Using Dr. Bawumia’s own analogy, if you look at the exit polls and what Musa Dankwa said, it’s clear we may need new drivers and leaders for the journey ahead,” he said.

He concluded by demanding accountability from those who oversaw the party’s electoral decline.

“We must reflect on how we moved from one of Ghana’s most commanding mandates to one of its weakest.”
