Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has expressed concerns over the composition of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) national executives, describing it as the party’s greatest deficiency.
According to him, unlike the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the NPP’s national executives lack parliamentary experience — a gap he believes weakens the party’s strategic positioning.
Dr. Kissi made these comments in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.
This comes in the wake of ongoing efforts by the NPP to re-strategise and rebuild its base to regain public confidence and electoral strength following the shocking defeat in the 2024 election.
The former lawmaker acknowledged that while national executives of both major political parties have excelled in various capacities, the NDC’s leadership stands out in terms of experience, having risen through multiple ranks of political service.
“I’m ashamed to say this, but our NPP Chairman compared to Asiedu Nketia, our General Secretary compared to the NDC — when you look at it critically, in terms of managerial role, we [NPP] have lost some parliamentary experience.
“Some people in the NDC hierarchy are former ministers, and in every house, you gain some experience and knowledge due to the training you are exposed to,” he stated.
Dr. Kissi has therefore urged the NPP to take deliberate actions and make strategic decisions to strengthen its grassroots structures and secure more parliamentary seats in the next election.
“It is the polling stations that deliver parliamentary seats, so how can we win if we don’t strengthen the base? It is unlikely that you will win the presidency without majority parliamentary seats. Our programming should be geared towards having more parliamentary seats; then the icing on the cake will be the presidency,” he admonished.
