Jubilee House TV Subscription Ban Saves Ghana GH₵120K Monthly – Kwakye Ofosu

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to eliminate satellite TV subscriptions at the Jubilee House is saving the country around GH₵120,000 every month.

The initiative, which saw the cancellation of premium TV services such as DStv, forms part of a broader policy to promote financial discipline and cut non-essential government expenses.

In interviews with JoyNews and GBC, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu explained that all paid television services at the presidency have been replaced with free-to-air local channels.

He emphasized that this cost-cutting measure reflects the government’s resolve to implement prudent financial management across public institutions.

“When we assumed office at the Jubilee House, we discovered that the state was spending GH₵120,000 monthly on satellite TV subscriptions in addition to local channels. President Mahama has since put an end to that. Imagine the impact of saving GH₵120,000 every month,” he said.

Illustrating the significance of such savings, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu pointed to his constituency, where some communities’ water challenges could be resolved with as little as GH₵1,000.

“There are areas in AAEK where a broken water pump costing just GH₵1,000 has deprived over 100 people of water for months. Meanwhile, the previous government was spending GH₵120,000 monthly on satellite TV at the seat of government. President Mahama has halted this,” he added.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu reiterated the administration’s focus on cutting wasteful spending and investing in initiatives that provide meaningful improvements in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.
