Senior officers from all eleven agencies under the Ministry of the Interior have jointly donated GH¢1 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as the “Mahama Cares” initiative.
The donation was made during a brief ceremony at the Jubilee House on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Present at the event were top officials from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and other affiliated institutions.
This collective gesture is in support of President John Dramani Mahama’s flagship healthcare initiative, which provides financial assistance to Ghanaians requiring urgent and life-saving medical treatment.
Launched on April 29, 2025, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), the Ghana Medical Trust Fund—branded as “Mahama Cares”—is designed to ease the financial burden on patients seeking specialized treatment for chronic and critical conditions.
At the launch, President Mahama described the fund as more than just a health intervention, calling it a “symbol of hope” for families struggling with high medical costs and long-term illnesses.
The fund targets support for treatment of conditions such as cancer, diabetes, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, and chronic kidney failure, among others.
It is also intended to complement the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which currently does not cover many advanced or specialist medical services.
President Mahama has emphasized that the initiative reflects his administration’s broader commitment to inclusive and equitable healthcare, ensuring that no Ghanaian is denied access to critical treatment due to financial constraints.
