Dr. Stephen Amoah, a leading member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team and MP for Nhyiaeso, has rubbished claims that over 60 NPP Members of Parliament have declared their support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s 2026 flagbearer race.
Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story on Thursday, June 19, Dr. Amoah described the mass MP endorsement as mere “propaganda” and a desperate attempt by the Bawumia camp to project artificial strength.
“It is extremely interesting and funny,” he said. “Just look at the footage—were those numbers even up to 30? And not everyone who went there supports Bawumia. That’s just not accurate.”
According to Dr. Amoah, many MPs who attended the meeting with Dr. Bawumia did so out of pressure or optics, not genuine commitment. He suggested that real support lies with Kennedy Agyapong, particularly among the party’s grassroots and former government appointees.
He disclosed that on the same day of the MP endorsements, over 260 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) met with Mr. Agyapong, with 90% allegedly declaring their support for his candidacy.
“We have their names, pictures, and phone numbers. If anyone doubts us, we can provide the evidence,” Dr. Amoah said.
He also alleged that some MPs, especially first-timers, are being intimidated and coerced into publicly backing Dr. Bawumia, despite privately supporting other aspirants.
“Some MPs support Ken, some support Bryan, others support Adutwum — but they’re being pressured into silence,” he claimed.
While refusing to specify how many MPs are currently in Agyapong’s corner, Dr. Amoah expressed confidence that the tide would soon turn visibly in their favour.
“Most of the MPs support Honourable Ken; they’re just quiet for now. The real game is about to begin,” he stated.
The NPP is scheduled to hold its presidential primary on January 31, 2026, but signs of a heated and polarized internal contest are already emerging as rival camps jostle for early momentum.
