General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has firmly denied allegations that the party’s upcoming presidential primaries are being manipulated to benefit former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia or any specific contender.
His comments come in the wake of speculation about possible bias in the lead-up to the primaries, which have been officially set for January 31, 2026, following approval from the party’s National Council based on recommendations by the Constitution Review Committee.
In an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday, June 18, Kodua dismissed the claims as baseless. “I’ll be very surprised if anyone believes an election that hasn’t even taken place is already skewed to favour a particular candidate,” he said.
He further highlighted the consistency and fairness of the NPP’s internal election processes, stressing that the party has always maintained a democratic approach. “If you look at our electoral history from 1992 onwards, about 70 to 80 percent of sitting executives are usually retained in every internal election,” he pointed out.
Kodua also clarified that the order in which internal elections are conducted — whether starting from the polling station or national level — has no bearing on the outcome or advantage for any aspirant. “The process itself doesn’t favour anyone. Many current executives will still hold their positions regardless of the sequence,” he added.
