On the sidelines of the 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, held in Changsha, China, on June 13, 2025, Ghana made a strong case for investment through its Free Zones Programme during a high-level Quality Foreign Trade Matchmaking Side Event.
The event brought together influential business leaders from across Africa and China, with a shared vision of boosting trade, fostering business partnerships, and expanding market opportunities. It was organised by the Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, with support from the Hunan GBA Economic & Trade Exchange Promotion Association and the Sand-Stone Association.
Representing Ghana, I used the platform to actively promote the Ghana Free Zones Authority as a gateway for export-driven manufacturing and investment in West Africa. My presentation highlighted Ghana’s strategic location, stable political environment, and competitive incentives—such as tax exemptions and easy repatriation of profits—that make it an ideal destination for international investors, especially those targeting global markets.
I also extended a formal invitation to Chinese enterprises to explore the diverse investment opportunities available under Ghana’s Free Zones Programme, positioning the country as a reliable partner for sustainable growth and industrial development.
A key highlight of the event was a policy update from Mr. Deng Weiping, Deputy Director General of Hunan’s Commerce Department, who announced China’s new trade framework enabling duty-free imports from countries like Ghana. This significant policy shift is expected to boost Ghanaian exports and enhance the competitiveness of Free Zones-based companies targeting the Chinese market.
Overall, the event underscored the growing importance of Africa-China trade cooperation. It provided a timely platform to strengthen economic ties, promote investment in Ghana’s industrial zones, and forge partnerships that support long-term economic transformation on both sides.
