Four Public Officials Charged with Corruption Over Hijacked Rice Containers at Tema Port

Four public officials — Issah Seidu, James Keck Osei, John Abban, and Peter Archibold Hyde — have been formally charged with corruption for allegedly conspiring to hijack ten containers of imported rice at the Tema Port.

According to sources close to the investigation, the officials are believed to have used their positions to manipulate port procedures and divert the rice containers for their personal benefit. The suspected collusion, which involved officials from different government agencies, reportedly aimed to bypass import duties and redistribute the goods unlawfully.

The case, currently being handled by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), has drawn widespread public attention due to the scale of the operation and the strategic position of those involved. The alleged incident raises serious concerns about corruption and accountability within Ghana’s public service and port operations.

Investigations are ongoing, and the accused are expected to appear in court in the coming days to face charges related to corruption, abuse of office, and conspiracy to commit a crime.

This case adds to the growing number of corruption-related prosecutions under the Special Prosecutor’s watch, as efforts to sanitize public institutions and reinforce integrity continue to gain momentum.
