Prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has described President John Dramani Mahama as the most prepared leader in Ghana’s political history.
In an interview on Asaase Radio on Monday, June 16, 2025, Gabby highlighted Mahama’s comprehensive political experience — rising from the role of assemblyman to vice president, president, and now returning to power after serving in opposition — as a key reason behind his readiness for leadership.
“I believe the current president is perhaps the most prepared we’ve ever had,” Gabby stated. “He has climbed every rung of the political ladder, experienced governance at the highest levels, gone into opposition, discovered who truly supports him, learned hard lessons, and is now back with a second opportunity.”
However, he cautioned that President Mahama now faces a tough road ahead, especially in delivering on promises made to Ghana’s youth.
“The youth are relentless. They want employment, and they voted for you expecting your 24-hour economy and other pledges to bring real change. Meeting their expectations, particularly in this age of social media where every action is scrutinized and amplified, is no easy task,” he explained.
Gabby emphasized that while the government cannot directly fulfill every aspiration, it must build a supportive environment that empowers citizens to achieve their own goals. “The responsibility is to create room and opportunity. It’s then up to the youth to take initiative and work hard.”
He also encouraged young Ghanaians to consider opportunities not just within Ghana but across the African continent.
