The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has disclosed that heavy-duty machinery acquired through the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) will soon be deployed nationwide to construct farm roads.
According to him, every district will be supplied with fuel to operate the DRIP machines, ensuring they are used effectively for improving rural access routes.
Addressing journalists in Kumasi on Sunday, June 15, Mr. Opoku announced that the government will temporarily suspend major rural road construction projects to enable full utilization of the DRIP equipment.
“Our plan is to equip all districts with the necessary resources to fuel and operate the machines for farm road development. This will help facilitate the smooth movement of food produce from farms to nearby communities,” he explained.
The minister also revealed that some officials were in the process of awarding new contracts for rural road construction, but he intervened to halt the move.
“Just last week, some individuals were about to award contracts for rural road works. I instructed them to stop because we already have the machines. What’s needed now is fuel and deployment,” he added.
