Eugene Boakye Antwi, a former Member of Parliament for Subin, has expressed growing distrust in people following recent appointments made by President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the ex-lawmaker voiced dismay over what he described as the hypocrisy of certain individuals who once positioned themselves as neutral voices and critics of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration but are now part of Mahama’s government.
“President Mahama’s appointments have made me more afraid of human nature. Some individuals who were once outspoken critics of the former NPP government are now benefiting from positions in the current administration,” he said.
Boakye Antwi suggested that these individuals were driven by personal agendas rather than genuine patriotism. He cited the example of Dr. Adu Anane Antwi, who was vocal during the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) debate but has since been appointed Board Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
“It was never about the country; it was about their interests. People who pretended to be neutral and critical of poor governance were simply paving the way for personal gain,” he asserted.
He further stated that, in his view, accepting such appointments after portraying oneself as a neutral critic damages credibility. “If I were in their shoes, I wouldn’t have accepted the appointment. It compromises integrity and reveals self-interest over national concern,” Boakye Antwi added.
