National Security Raids Former GIHOC MD’s Residence Over Alleged $100K State Vehicle Acquisition for GH¢4,943

National Security operatives on Thursday, May 15, 2025, conducted a dawn operation at the home of Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, as part of efforts to recover state vehicles reportedly still in his possession.

According to a report by *citinewsroom.com*, the operation began around 5:00 a.m. However, Jumah, a former appointee of ex-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was not at the residence during the raid.

Jumah is currently under investigation for alleged financial misconduct during his time at GIHOC, including the controversial acquisition of state assets and possible mismanagement of company resources.

A letter dated August 1, 2019, from GIHOC’s Board of Directors sanctioned the sale of a Genesis G90 saloon car (registration number GE 86 22-19) to Jumah as part of his service conditions. Despite the vehicle’s original price exceeding \$100,000, documents signed by the company’s Secretary and Head of Administration, Apea Twumasi-Ankrah, show it was sold to him for just GH¢4,943.11 — representing about 5% of its assessed value.

A subsequent independent valuation conducted by the State Transport Corporation, through valuation expert Daniel K. Orhin, assessed the car’s worth at GH¢98,862.00, raising further questions about the sale.

The former MD is also being investigated for allegedly holding onto two other official vehicles, including an Audi reportedly worth over \$60,000, without board authorization. Sources indicate that one of the vehicles, previously used by Jumah’s son, has since been returned to Accra.

Beyond the vehicle controversies, broader financial irregularities at GIHOC during Jumah’s leadership have come under scrutiny. Allegations include artificially inflating staff numbers, thereby increasing the company’s wage burden, and the unauthorized sale of company properties in Tema valued at over \$700,000 — all done without board approval.

Investigations into these matters are ongoing.
