In a move to strengthen stakeholder relations and gain firsthand insight into the operations of Ghana’s Free Zone Enterprises, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, on May 7, 2025, paid a working visit to three companies operating within the Tema Export Processing Zone (EPZ).
The visit forms part of Dr. Awusi’s broader strategy to engage directly with licensed enterprises, understand their challenges, and foster a supportive business environment that aligns with Ghana’s export-led industrialization agenda.
The CEO’s tour included AMP Logistics Limited, a key logistics service provider; Chocomac Ghana Limited, a cocoa processing company recently acquired by AMP Logistics; and Barry Callebaut Ghana Limited, a global leader in cocoa processing.
At AMP Logistics Limited, Dr. Awusi was welcomed by the company’s CEO, Mr. Joe Forson, and his management team. Mr. Forson highlighted AMP’s growth trajectory and credited the GFZA’s supportive framework for the company’s success. He disclosed that AMP has acquired Chocomac Ghana Limited—soon to be rebranded as TF Commodities Limited—as part of a broader strategy to fully integrate its operations within the cocoa value chain. He also noted that AMP is currently not facing significant operational difficulties.
Dr. Awusi proceeded to tour the facilities of both AMP and the soon-to-be-renamed TF Commodities Limited, gaining insight into their production and logistics processes.
At Barry Callebaut Ghana Limited, Dr. Awusi was hosted by Managing Director Mr. Ibrahim Menkeh M. and his team. Mr. Menkeh expressed appreciation for the continued support from the GFZA and noted that ongoing operational challenges were already being addressed effectively. He commended the Authority’s responsiveness and reaffirmed Barry Callebaut’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s economic development.
Responding to stakeholders at both sites, Dr. Awusi reaffirmed GFZA’s dedication to providing a facilitative environment for Free Zone Enterprises. She praised the companies for their contributions to the national economy and their alignment with the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Policy.
“This visit has given me valuable perspective into your operations, and I commend you for your resilience and innovation. The GFZA remains committed to working with you to promote growth, create jobs, and boost exports,” Dr. Awusi said.
Dr. Awusi was accompanied on the tour by the Deputy CEO (Operations), Mr. Apau Wiredu Lateef, and other senior GFZA officials. The engagement reinforces the Authority’s proactive approach to supporting enterprise growth and creating a competitive, business-friendly ecosystem within Ghana’s Free Zones.
