Gospel music took center stage at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) as Diana Hamilton and Mercy Chinwo’s spirit-filled anthem “The Doing of the Lord” earned the prestigious International Collaboration of the Year award.
This powerful track brought together two of Africa’s most celebrated gospel voices—Ghana’s Diana Hamilton and Nigeria’s Mercy Chinwo—in a cross-border collaboration that captured hearts across the continent and beyond. Released in January 2024, the song soared to the top of YouTube’s charts in Ghana within 24 hours and also made waves in the UK, peaking at number 14 on the UK’s top 30 chart.
What makes this win even more remarkable is that the two artists didn’t record the song in the same studio. Yet, their chemistry was undeniable, and their voices blended harmoniously, delivering a message of faith, gratitude, and divine intervention. The accompanying music video beautifully showcased Ghanaian and Nigerian cultural elements, adding a visual richness that deepened the song’s impact.
“The Doing of the Lord” wasn’t just a streaming success—it also dominated Ghanaian radio, becoming the most played song on airwaves in 2024 with over 449 spins. A live rendition, recorded during Diana Hamilton’s “Awake Experience,” was later released in September to wide acclaim.
Speaking about the collaboration, Diana Hamilton shared that the project was guided by divine inspiration. “Every song has its unique purpose and message,” she said. “I strongly believe the person I work with must resonate with that purpose—and Mercy did, beautifully.”
This TGMA win not only affirms the song’s success but also highlights the growing strength of gospel music on the international stage. With “The Doing of the Lord,” Diana Hamilton and Mercy Chinwo have reminded the world of the unifying and uplifting power of gospel music.
