Ghanaian rapper Criss Waddle has taken another swipe at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), alleging that the party would have used global developments—like the US-China trade tensions and the emergence of a new Pope—as excuses to introduce more taxes if they were still in power.
In a post on X dated May 9, 2025, Waddle ridiculed the NPP’s tax policies, humorously suggesting that the government would have rolled out absurd levies such as a “Pope levy” and a “Trump levy.”
He drew parallels to the NPP’s introduction of the COVID-19 levy during the pandemic and the anxiety caused by President Akufo-Addo’s frequent “Fellow Ghanaians” national broadcasts at the time.
“By now, they’d be addressing the nation with ‘Fellow Ghanaians’ and we’d be panicking over the Pope’s death. Ghanaians abroad would be slapped with a Pope levy, Trump levy, and even a China levy of 8.90,000%,” he posted sarcastically.
The “Bie Gya” artist also reflected on the economic difficulties citizens faced during the NPP’s tenure, stating, “Herh! We’ve truly suffered.”
His remarks have ignited mixed reactions online, with many users echoing his frustration and criticising the previous administration’s economic management.
