Inter-City STC Coaches Limited is initiating steps to recover a bungalow and parcel of land in Kumasi that was leased to a private individual under a 50-year agreement.
The property, located in the Oforikrom Municipality, previously served as accommodation for STC staff and guests visiting the area, helping the company reduce lodging costs. However, it was later abandoned and leased out for redevelopment into a hotel.
During a site inspection, STC’s Deputy Managing Director, Nuru Hamidan, expressed dissatisfaction with the previous government’s handling of the asset. He criticised the long-term lease arrangement, stating that STC’s core mandate is to provide transport services, not to relinquish state properties for private commercial use.
Hamidan revealed that discussions are currently underway with the lessee to reclaim the property and restore it to its original function.
He also raised concern about significant land encroachment, noting that roughly two-thirds of STC’s 22.68-acre land in the area has been overtaken by both permanent and temporary structures. The company, he added, is planning interventions to curb further encroachment.
