Afenyo-Markin Commissions Effutu Court Complex, Reaffirms Support for Judicial Independence

Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has reaffirmed his dedication to promoting judicial independence as a cornerstone of Ghana’s democratic governance.

He made the remarks during the commissioning of a newly constructed court complex in the Effutu municipality, which comprises both a High Court and a Circuit Court. The facility is aimed at enhancing access to justice in response to the area’s growing population and increasing legal demands.

As the Minority Leader and key facilitator of the project, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the new complex would help reduce pressure on the region’s existing courts and bring legal services closer to the people.

“This court complex represents a major step forward in strengthening the rule of law and ensuring justice is more accessible within Effutu,” he stated at the ceremony.

He further stressed that the existence of strong legal institutions is vital to the health of a democracy.

“The commissioning of this complex reflects a principle I hold deeply — that law and order form the foundation of any functional democratic society. Without a robust and independent judiciary, the core of our democracy begins to unravel,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin pledged continued support for institutions that protect citizens’ rights and uphold constitutional governance.
