President Mahama Nominates 33 District Chief Executives for Eastern Region

The President of the Republic of Ghana, in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936 as amended), has nominated 33 individuals for appointment as District Chief Executives (DCEs) in the Eastern Region. This nomination is pending approval by their respective District Assemblies.

The announcement was made via an official release from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, signed by the sector Minister, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim (MP), and communicated to all press houses for immediate attention and action.

The Office of the President, in a detailed list signed by Secretary to the President Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., outlined the nominated candidates for each district. The nominees represent a diverse mix of professionals, with several women nominated for key districts, signaling the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.

Notable nominations include:

  • Kate Mawusi Babanawo for Kwaku Afram Plains North
  • Effah Osei Bonsu David for Kwahu South
  • Mercy Korang for Fanteakwa South
  • Lydia Ohenewa Sarah for Suhum
  • Rebecca Chissah for Upper West Akim
  • Paulina Akabila for Lower West Akim

The full list of nominees spans all 33 districts in the Eastern Region, including Kwahu East, Atiwa East and West, Okere, New Juaben North and South, Yilo Krobo, and Asuogyaman.

This move forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen local governance through the appointment of competent leadership to oversee development at the grassroots level.

The nominees will officially assume their roles upon approval by the respective District Assemblies, in accordance with the legal and constitutional frameworks guiding local administration in Ghana.
