GBA urges Prez Mahama to release full prima facie decision on Chief Justice suspension

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has called on the President of the Republic, John Mahama, to immediately make public the full decision that establishes a prima facie case against the Chief Justice.

This appeal follows the recent suspension of the Chief Justice, a move that has generated widespread public interest and debate within legal and political circles.

In a press statement issued shortly after the announcement of the suspension, the GBA stressed the importance of transparency and due process in handling such a significant constitutional matter.

“The Ghana Bar Association calls upon the President of the Republic of Ghana to immediately release the full decision establishing a prima facie case against the Chief Justice, consistent with established precedent,” the statement read.

The association argued that the disclosure of the full decision is vital to maintaining public confidence in the integrity of the constitutional process.

According to the GBA, releasing the details would demonstrate that the procedures being followed are in line with the principles of justice, transparency, and fairness.

The group further highlighted that previous instances involving Article 146 proceedings have included the publication of prima facie findings to ensure public accountability.

The GBA reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and called on all stakeholders to approach the matter with utmost responsibility.

It urged the President and other constitutional actors to ensure that the rights of all parties involved are respected throughout the process.

The association concluded by reminding the public that judicial independence is a cornerstone of Ghana’s democracy and must be protected at all times.
