Bawumia Refuses to Accept Blame for NPP’s 2024 Defeat – Omane Boamah

Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah has taken a swipe at former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of failing to take personal responsibility for the party’s loss in the 2024 elections.

In recent statements, Dr. Bawumia attributed the NPP’s defeat to several factors, including the controversial Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), the unpopular E-Levy, internal party divisions, and what he described as “the arrogance of power.” He argued that these issues severely weakened public trust in the party.

But responding via a Facebook post on Sunday, April 27, Dr. Boamah criticized Dr. Bawumia for deflecting blame.

“Elections 2024: Bawumia is blaming everything and everyone EXCEPT HIMSELF. He was deeply involved in the NPP’s economic mismanagement!” Dr. Boamah wrote.

Dr. Boamah’s remarks add to the growing scrutiny over Dr. Bawumia’s role in the country’s economic challenges during the NPP administration, particularly given his position as head of the Economic Management Team.

Many analysts and political commentators, including Dr. Boamah, believe that the economic hardships under the NPP government were central to the party’s electoral downfall.
